BFNC and M&T to Honor 10 Buffalo Seniors at September 14 Awards Dinner

On Saturday, September 14, the Buffalo Federation of Neighborhood Centers will continue its treasured tradition of honoring the citizens who helped put Buffalo on the map.

Approximately 250 seniors, BFNC employees, and other area residents will gather at the New Golden Nugget Restaurant for the 23rd Annual Moot Senior Center Awards Dinner. There they will celebrate the achievements of 10 older adults in their careers, churches, families, and neighborhoods.

M&T Bank’s Charitable Foundation will again serve as sponsor. The dinner is BFNC’s main fundraising event for the center, and monies support Moot’s daily programming and operations.

The BFNC Moot Center sits near Buffalo General Hospital in the City's Fruitbelt neighborhood. It’s older clients are the living history of Buffalo: schoolteachers and social workers, corner store and beauty salon owners, deacons and church secretaries, Bethlehem Steel, Ford, and World War II vets. According to event organizers, honoring everyday heroes has been at the core of the dinner since its beginnings.

"The Moot awards allow us to pay tribute to people whose lifetime contributions have paved the road for all of us," said Jan Peters, executive director."

This year's honorees include: Heloise Cornwall, Vivian Harris, Mikki Harris, Gertrude Holmes, Mary Kemp, Norbert Michalak, Mary Lou Oliver, Ernest Robinson, William Thomas and Atheria Ware.

The Golden Nugget is located at 2046 Fillmore Avenue in Buffalo. To reserve tickets or make a donation to this year’s program, the public may contact Evangeline Fuller at 882-4637.
