Five Students win prizes in BFNC Poster contestFive Buffalo students were recently recognized as the winners of the 2002-2003 "First Things First" teen pregnancy prevention poster contest. Out of 243 entries, winners came from four different schools. From Hutch Tech High School came the first place winner, Kati Schmidt, 11th grade, and second place winner, Vanessa Rodriguez, 12th grade. Third place went to Amanda K. Parisi, grade 12, from Mount Mercy Academy; fourth place went to Brendaliz Escalante, an 8th grader at Native American Magnet School, and fifth place was awarded to Isoken C. Ogebemudi, grade 11, from Buffalo Traditional High School. The contest was sponsored by the Buffalo Federation of Neighborhood Centers through its Buffalo Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Services program, along with the Buffalo Challenger and Rocket Publications. All winners received cash prizes and the first place winner’s poster will be displayed on a billboard near her school and on busses across Buffalo from January through March in 2003. BFNC has offered programs for youth, adults and seniors since 1893. The organization specializes in helping low-income and mentally ill persons address life challenges in order to reach their full potential.
