Volunteers Prepare 2,110 Food Baskets -- Brighten Season for Needy Families

Corporate and individual volunteer teams shared the giving spirit Thursday afternoon by preparing 2,110 holiday food baskets for needy individuals and families.

The 22nd Annual program was coordinated by the Buffalo Federation of Neighborhood Centers (BFNC). It was sponsored by help from Fleet Bank ($15,000), the Peace Bridge Authority ($3,000), General Mills, Tops and Wonder Bread.

All food baskets were distributed to pre-selected applicants on Friday through a network of community centers, churches and public housing sites.

This year's volunteer teams included Team Fleet, the McAuley Residence, Remarketing Services of America, Tonawanda Y.E.S. program and children from the BFNC Fun & Learn program.

The holiday project is BFNC’s largest outreach effort of the year. The agency serves 14,000 persons annually with its regular programs for youths, adults and seniors. Its mission is to help people of all ages to unlock their full potential, while enriching neighborhood life.
