    BFNC: SUPPORTING COMMUNITY! Health & Wellness Fair Friday August 22!

    The Buffalo Federation of Neighborhood Centers (BFNC) believes that, as a good community neighbor, a focus on assisting community members remains a mission.

    “Our community outreach team alerts us to the needs. BFNC continues to focus on how the agency can help residents overcome life obstacles,” stated Chandra Redfern, BFNC CEO.

    Redfern added, “BFNC will continue to serve the needs of community members through our services and programs.”

    BFNC’s upcoming programs are designed to help fill some of the needs of community members. The Community is invited to:

    •The BFNC Weekly Food Pantry – Opened Thursday and Friday from 11 am to 1:00 pm BFNC Neighborhood House 76 Orange Street

    •The monthly “Mommy Matters” Dinner and Conversations evenings. The next one is on August 18th.

    •August 22 is the Community Health and Wellness Fair at 2365 Main St. – Activities that provide a guide and uplift Community Members including live music, wellness information, health screenings, free food, backpack giveaway and more!

    •September 15- A YOUTH CONVERSATION with Presentation at the BFNC Moot Center- Registration Required. PLEASE CALL 716-852-5065 EXT. 100.

    •September 27- A “Mommy Matters” luncheon for mothers and their children – 11:00 am -2:00 p.m.- Registration Required

    •October 3rd – Attend the annual Fall Fest@ at 76 Orange St. – A community event that celebrates community. Various activities, delicious food (while supplies last), and music.

    BFNC was created from a vision of founder Jan Peters to fill a need on the Eastside of Buffalo.  It was a time when neighbors worked together to develop a feeling of community and uplift community members.  BFNC worked to help residents overcome life obstacles by providing several services.  Today the agency has expanded its neighborhood to now include Niagara County. BFNC has over 125 years of serving the Buffalo community and providing a safety-net of human services to assist residents with mental illness, substance abuse, affordable housing, financial training, and tax assistance.     BFNC '“You Matter” Fund: To Help Provide Community Transportation Service

    HAS DEVELOPED A “YOU MATTER” FUND TO ADDRESS TRANSPORTATION NEEDS OF RESIDENTS LIVING IN THE FRUITBELT and OTHER EASTSIDE COMMUNITIES

    BFNC FUND TO HELP PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION TO ACCESS GROCERY SHOPPING and HEALTH CARE SERVICES

    Buffalo Federation of Neighborhood Centers (BFNC) has established a fund to help the Fruit Belt and other east side residents who shop at the Tops Market on Jefferson Avenue. Recognizing the importance of serving community members living in the Fruit Belt and surrounding East Side neighborhoods, the BFNC CEO, Chandra Redfern saw a need for the agency to fill a much-needed service gap.

    “BFNC has observed the impact to the community from the tragic mass shooting on Saturday.
    As a result, the local Tops Supermarket that served as the only viable food source for many East Side residents is currently closed. This has not only affected the residents in the zip codes 14208 and 14209, but the impact is also being felt by residents residing in the Fruitbelt and several neighborhoods on the East Side such as the 14204 and 14212 neighborhoods,” stated Chandra Redfern, BFNC CEO.

    Redfern adds, “We see the growing needs as the number of BFNC Pantry shoppers increase weekly and the increase in calls for youth support services, care management and residential services.”

    The BFNC “You Matter” Fund will address transportation needs to access other community grocery stores and transportation for those in need of mental health services to address the trauma caused by the Mass Shooting.

    DETAILS ABOUT THE BFNC TRANSPORTATION ASSISTANCE

    • The Transportation assistance is for grocery shopping, physical and mental health appointments for residents living in 14204 and 14212.
    • For more information or to schedule a ride contact Letrice at 716-856-0363
    • There is a limit of 8 rides per month per customer.
    • Participants will have access to rides from BFNC volunteers or a taxi service that the agency has retained to provide transportation.
